I just got my containers delivered from Wuwi Shipping Container yesterday. I am planning to make a two-story container house i thought it would be expensive and surprisingly Wuwi Shipping Container sells cheap containers i got my 40ft Container for 1800 each and i even paid it upon delivery. I am from Texas by the way.

This is great. I particularly liked the detail in the foundation construction. I live on the east coast and when building on a sloped site, we struck a large continuous seam of rock. So we decided to anchor one corner of the house basement on this bedrock, poured the slab , built up the walls and used floating “I” beams to act as a dish type bearings to support the weight of the house on top, in case of earth quake. It was actually cheaper to build like this and people thought I was crazy. 2 earthquakes later, the house has settled nicely into the sloped site. In a container this would simply look like a single independent pedestal post under each corner with a cast iron dish and a corresponding twist lock with a cast iron ball. The whole structure “ floats “ on the four corners.

Thanks so much for the how to's. I plan to build an off grid home on a tropical island. It must be as DIY as possible. It must also be CAT V ready. CAT V = EF 3 x 30 Mi. wide. (don't believe me?) I'm mostly concerned about cutting out a 8' x 20' opening in the sides of two adjacent 40' high cubes. How to bridge the span? Go ahead, call me clueless, I've already beaten you to it. Clueless in the Caribbean.

Why not just insulate the outside of the container with spray foam and build out your 4 inches on the outside and finish with wooden or batten siding? The inside just glue wooden strips on and paint or leave. If this is due to building codes in California, then choosing a container home in that state is not the way to go at all.

So the main takeaway is, don't build or live in California.

So you lose about 8.5" inside that seems lame.

Sorry, but if you insulate shipping container from the inside: only PUR foam is correct solution.Otherwise, under those insulation panels you will have condenced water which will get frozen in the winter. I'm building my shipping container house and I know what I'm talking about... However, I made a mistake installing tube steel frame instead of angled steel - I found my mistake while I was installing windows... Your idea with angle steel is way better and looks better too.

Here in New England , most communities forbid using containers . Have you ever spent a winter up north ? There are "R" factors involved .
